Visa 10.1 — EMV Liability Shift Counterfeit Fraud
What it means
The cardholder claims a counterfeit card was used at a chip-capable terminal, and liability shifted to the merchant for not accepting chip.
Common causes
- Chip card was swiped instead of dipped at an EMV terminal
- Counterfeit card used in a card-present transaction
- Terminal or POS not configured for EMV chip acceptance
